Many of you have attended one of Brook's open houses where she shows you all the water conservation systems she has in her home (greywater, water harvesting, etc.). Now, come to a hands-on, make your own barrell workshop! If you've been looking for a cost effective way of saving rainwater, we are offering a solution. Come and make your own rain barrel to take home! Britt Cool, from American Recyclers and Brook Sarson, of H2OME will host the class. We will provide clean, recycled 55 gallon drums along with a kit of parts to tap it for a hose fitting on the bottom and an overflow on the top. You will be able to drill your holes and assemble your barrel on site. We will talk about filtration, mosquitoes, how to figure out your water resources, uses for your rainwater, as well as other rainwater harvesting techniques. After the class, you can purchase additional barrels and kits, if you choose. The cost of the class is $60. You can upgrade your tank choice for $5. Additional Barrels are $32. They accept cash or checks. To RSVP - contact Brook Sarson Directly at: 619.964.4838 or brooke@www.h2o-me.co m Learn more about Brooke and her water conservation efforts at: http://www.h2o-me.co m Also: Brook is doing an open house from 10-2 - if you haven't stopped by to see her setup, do it during this timeframe and she'll explain everything... Dear Meetup, One of our members is a solar cook and invited us to an event that the Solar Cooking meetup is participating in. (thanks, Sherry!) Here are the details: Solar cooking Demonstration and Workshop. Show off your solar cooker. Learn to build a solar cooker. Saturday, Sept 12, 2009 at Harry Griffen Park 9550 Milden Street - Grossmont High School La Mesa, CA 91941 The event runs from 10 to 2, however, solar cooks may set up earlier if they are cooking for the potluck. Bring your cooker, bring food if you plan to join for lunch, we will potluck at 1pm. The first workshop will begin at 10am. This is an excellent venue - sunny area with a nice shade tree nearby. There are lots of other environmental groups there so it is a good opportunity to learn from others as well. If you are new to solar cooking, this is a great opportunity to see all the different options and to talk to experienced cooks. If you want to build an All Season Solar Cooker you must RSVP. The material fee for a cut and folded, ready to cover cooker will be $30. If you want to contact or learn more about Solar cooking, I would encourage you to contact/join their meetup: http://cooking.meetu p.com Hope to see you all there! Adam Pascu 858-761-1707

The agenda I am listing for our meetings is simply a suggestion. I anticipate changes & flexibility as ideas/offers arise. For meetings at my home: 1. I would like to have one or two topics of discussion for the evening. March's meetup will focus on basic, simple, easy and cost-effective changes to do in your home today. 2. Either a volunteer within the group or professional outside the group will head each topic discussion. 3. We will have a short presentation by the topic presenter which will be followed by a QA session. 4. Afterwards, we will mingle, have a drink and then go home. Carpooling is encouraged and I will do everything I can to help match those who could feasibly carpool.
